The paperwork commonly involved when moving goods from China by sea.

Common documents

Exact requirements depend on your destination country and the goods, but most shipments involve:

  • Commercial invoice — the value and description of the goods
  • Packing list — what's in each carton, with weights and dimensions
  • Bill of lading (B/L) — issued by the carrier as the shipment contract and receipt
  • Certificate of origin — sometimes needed for duties or trade agreements
  • Product-specific certificates where the destination requires them

Why accuracy matters

Mismatched descriptions, values or quantities between documents are a frequent cause of customs delays. We check documents before cargo leaves China.
